This is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm custody or release, post bond, release anyone, or retrieve an official booking record. For those matters, contact the government office that holds the record or manages the custody system.
Official Matagorda Record Contacts
For county custody questions or routing, use the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Richard “Rick” DeLeon III’s office is at 2308 Avenue F, Bay City, TX 77414, and its public telephone number is 979-245-5526. The sheriff’s page does not list a dedicated jail records email, booking line, public counter hours, or booking-photo fee. Department and location hours vary, so confirm details before a visit.
Booking records and photographs require a written county Public Information Act request. The county accepts electronic requests at mcpir@matagordatx.gov, and mail, hand-delivery, or fax requests for Matt Sloan, Matagorda County Attorney, PIA Request, 1700 7th Street, Room 305, Bay City, TX 77414. The fax number is 979-244-7647. Phone requests are not PIA requests. Under the county’s PIA guidance, fees follow Texas Administrative Code Chapter 70 and an itemized estimate is required at $40 or more under Texas Government Code §552.2615. No flat photo fee or response deadline is published.
For court files and later case status, contact the Matagorda County Clerk, 1700 7th Street, Room 202, Bay City, TX 77414, 979-244-7680, or coclerk@co.matagorda.tx.us. The clerk’s office lists weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a noon to 1 p.m. lunch closure, and provides access to the county’s Odyssey court records.
Use the record holder that matches the question:
- For a current county-custody check, begin with the official Matagorda County Jailing Search. A result is a custody record, not a court outcome.
- For an existing booking record, release report, or a booking photograph, send the written county PIA request described above and identify the person, approximate booking date, and booking or SO number when known.
- For a Bay City arrest or incident record, start with the Bay City Police Department. A city record and a county detention record can be held by different offices.
- For a Palacios police record, use the Palacios records-request route. Palacios PD lists 311 Henderson Avenue, Palacios, TX 77465, 361-972-3605, and weekday office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- For a person in state prison, use the TDCJ Offender Search. TDCJ custody is separate from Matagorda County jail booking.
- For federal custody, consult the BOP Inmate Locator. Federal custody does not use the county roster.
- For immigration detention, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System, which is a separate federal system.
